Flamenco makeup

Flamenco makeup

A couple of weeks ago I participated in my first performance since quarantine.

I danced sevillanas and bulerías, and I did not wear flamenco shoes.⁣⁣⁣

And, once again I let my silver strands show. (More on that below.)

⁣⁣The setting was beautiful, outdoors under the forest of The Grotto. ⁣⁣The whole experience felt a bit surreal, looking out onto an audience of people spaced far apart, all wearing masks.

It felt wonderful to see familiar faces out there. (I’ve grown so accustomed to mainly seeing students online.)

My favorite part was teaching the physically distanced audience palmas and baile with the help of superstar student, Ione.

I was amazed, and overjoyed, at the number of people who chose to participate. Normally we would have taught jaleos, an integral of flamenco, but for safety reasons, we left this part out. ⁣⁣⁣

As I mentioned, I let my grey hairs be.

The last time I did this was five months ago, so as you can imagine there are many more now. Plus, being outdoors made them much more noticeable.

I’m still not completely comfortable with what’s happening with my hair color, so I decided to focus on other things like my dress,

my accessories,

how I did my hair,

my makeup,

and,

of course,

having a good time and giving my all to the people who came out to see us.

If you’re interested in trying out this look, read on.

(I took the picture you see a couple of hours after the show.⁣⁣⁣)

How To Get This Look:

(I used all Beautycounter makeup.)

STEP ONE:
Prime Eyelids.
Apply a light shade of liquid concealer to each eyelid then blend with the fingers. (I used the this concealer pen in fair.)

STEP TWO:
Eyeshadow.
I used four shades on my upper lids. They are, in order from top to bottom, all from the Velvet Eyeshadow Palette in Romantic: 1. Cameo (light pink) 2. Candlelight (soft pink) 3. Truffle (tan) 4. Smolder (dark brown)

STEP THREE:
Foundation.
I skipped foundation, and used this tinted moisturizer with SPF instead. As I was doing an outdoor, daytime show, I did not feel the need for as much coverage. (I applied this facial oil before putting on the tinted moisturizer for maximum glow.)

STEP FOUR:
Bronzer.
I dusted a bit of this all over bronzer in Dune over my cheeks, forehead, nose, and chin.

STEP FIVE:
Set makeup.
I used this mist to do so.

STEP SIX:
Line upper lids.
I used this liquid eyeliner to line on my upper lids.

STEP SEVEN:
Line lower lids.
I used three different products to line the lower eye. First, I applied dark brown eyeshadow (smolder) using a liner brush. I enhanced the line with this black eye pencil and a touch of brown brow pencil. (If I were going to be dancing a lot, in the sun, or worried about sweating, I would ditch the eyeshadow as a liner and just use the eyeliner and/or brow pencil as the shadow can get a bit messy under the eyes if there’s sweating.)

STEP EIGHT:
Conceal.
I added concealer under the eyes. (I like to do this after I’ve applied my eye makeup in case I make any mistakes along the way.)

STEP NINE:
Eyebrows.
I used this brow pencil to make my brows stand out.

STEP TEN:
Mascara.
I used this lengthening mascara on my upper and lower lashes only. (I absolutely love that I can use this on my lower lashes and it does not run, even when I sweat.)

STEP ELEVEN:
Lips.
I was feeling the pink, so I wore this bright pink lipstick (Garden Party).
