Today, to wrap up love month, a song that falls on the tragic side of love.

This one was on a compilation CD I purchased soon after returning from Spain the first time. I would listen to it over and over again.

Following the words you'll find a collection of videos one of which is Pepe de Lucía and his daughter Malú singing it live, another from the Spanish version of The Voice, one of a little boy who will blow you away, one with some very cool dancing, and one from La Macanita.

Amor amiga, amor amante

Five Versions:

(The English translation follows the videos.)

Here are Pepe de Lucía and Malú singing it together live:

Here a little boy (who will knock your socks off) sings it in front of his idol, David Barrull:

You can hear the chorus at the end of this video. (You'll also hear this one at the beginning.)

Here's David Barrull on La Voz ("The Voice" in Spain):

And finally, you can hear La Macanita sing it here por bulerías.

Dream of Love (At Dawn)

At dawn
You left at dawn
You filled my body with the flame of your love
And you left at dawn
And at dawn, at dawn

At dawn
You left at dawn
And a dream of love between you and me ended
I'll hold onto the secret that you shared with me
You left at dawn
You left one day

Dream of love, dream of love
Dream of love
Oh of love and blood
I don't know why death looks for me
Love friend, Love lover

Oh, love
What meaning does my life have if I can't give you love
From you I wish for your kisses and your warmth
Love

Your eyes
Shine with the moon
And they reflect a silver glow across your body
And your dark face
And at dawn, at dawn

At dawn
You left at dawn
And a dream of love between you and me would end
I'll hold onto the secret that you shared with me
You left at dawn
You left one day

Dream of love, dream of love
Dream of love
Oh of love and blood
I don't know why death looks for me
Love friend, Love lover

Translation

This was a tough one to translate. It's one of those that sounds much better in Spanish. (Especially the line Amor amiga, Amor amante. I considered translating this as Darling friend, Darling love. But I stuck with Love friend, Love lover. The Love in this sense I interpret as My Love, calling somebody Love in an endearing way. I interpret the line to mean you are my love, my friend, my lover ...
