Se Amarra El Pelo | The Weekly Letra

Below watch José Mijita singing from his home during the 2020 lockdown in Spain. He sings for over fifteen minutes by himself, accompanied only at the very end with palmas and baile por fiesta.

Here is one letra he sings at the end:

Bulerías
Traditional

Se amarra el pelo
con una cinta de hilo negro

He ties back his hair
using a black ribbon

Below you can hear José Mijita sing this one around 15:15 while his daughter, Malena, dances:

You Can Also Hear:

Me Duele at 13:45 when the “fiesta” starts

Me Vengo Cayendo at the very end at 15:30.

De La Parra Sale el Vino at 10:40

In the video José sings por martinete, fandangos, tientos/tangos, bulerías… Which do you prefer?

Want to Learn More About Cante?

Join me for a special workshop with José and Carmen Herrera to become familiar with cante por bulerías and how it relates to baile and compás.

Before I go, I thought you might also enjoy watching Antonio Carmona perform his Se Amarra El Pelo from his album Vengo Venenoso live in El Sol, la Sal y el Son.

And here you can listen to Porrina de Badajoz’s version por alegrías.

The cover photo of José was from our cante class during the 2018 Flamenco Tour to Jerez.
