Below is a video of a young Lebrijano shared by David Lagos to accompany his online workshop about the soleá branch of the flamenco tree.

This is one of the letras you’ll hear:

Soleá de Alcalá
Traditional

No quiero ir a Alcalá
porque me dan camarones
a la venía patrás

I don’t want to go to Alcalá
because they give me shrimp
just as I have to leave

This was included as one small part of the supplemental materials David provided for us to accompany the workshop.

He explained each letra in the video, touching on the structure of each, the messages and the way El Lebrijano chose to interpret each one.

By the way, do you notice how there are no women in this bar?
