How To Get Good Action Dance Shots Using Your Phone (Without Anybody's Help)

Want to know how to get good action dance shots all on your own?

In this online world we find ourselves in pictures are in high demand.

But how do you get a candid shot of yourself when there’s nobody there to take it for you?

Sure you can use a timer feature, but this can be very frustrating as you likely have to go back and do it over and over again until you get that just right shot.

I don’t have the patience for that, do you?

Here’s the way I like to do it, step by step:

(Scroll down for a video demo.)

1. Prepare

Place your phone in a tripod, or simply lean it against something if you don’t have one.

2. Record

Start recording a new video.

3. Move

Get out in front of your phone (or camera), and begin dancing!

Repeat some favorite moves over and over, ones you know you look good doing, do a whole dance, go slow, go fast... These all work, so try different things.

Record for as short or long a time as you like. With even just ten seconds of video you should be able to get at least a couple of good shots.

4. Capture

When you’re done, start to play back your video.

Do this just to get it going then press pause.

Scroll through taking screenshots when you see poses you like. (While you can do this without putting your video on pause I don’t recommend it because as soon as you lift your finger to take the screenshot you lose your shot as the video keeps playing. Then you have to pause it and scroll back to find the shot again, so it’s best to just put it on pause from the beginning.)

Before you take your screenshot, be sure to tap the screen. This will remove the borders and controls on the top and bottom of your phone.

Not sure how to take a screenshot?

It differs depending on the device, so check this out to find out how to do it on yours.

5. Edit

I usually edit my photos within Instagram, but you can just edit within the phone itself or use one of the many fancy apps out there.

And, that’s it!

Watch my quick Instagram demo here.

Not only is this a method that gets you some true action shots but it also allows you to avoid any awkward looking poses.

By the way, this is the practice-wear edition, so you can go do this yourself RIGHT NOW! No need for makeup or getting dressed up.
