Here’s a flamenco marking step that uses the abanico in a percussive way.⁣

We can create rhythms with the fan by tapping it against the body while open or closed.⁣

In this instance we have the fan open.⁣

Steps & Counts:⁣⁣

12 right step with the full foot. (You may do this strong as a golpe or lighter.⁣

1 ⁣left tap with the ball of the foot⁣

2 left step with the full foot⁣

3 right full foot⁣

4 ⁣left tap ⁣

5 left full foot⁣

6 right full foot⁣

7 ⁣left tap ⁣

8 left full foot⁣

9 right full foot⁣

10 ⁣left tap ⁣

11 left full foot⁣⁣

Fan movement⁣s

Begin with your arm up and the abanico open.⁣

12 rotate wrist inward to spin fan in circles ⁣

1 “⁣

2 ⁣”⁣

3 “⁣

4 “⁣

5 “⁣

6 bring arm down⁣

& tap left shoulder w/fan ⁣

7 🚫⁣

& tap left shoulder w/fan ⁣

8 🚫⁣

&  tap right thigh w/fan ⁣

9⁣ 🚫⁣

10 raise arm out the side with the fan still open⁣

11 flip fan to face the other direction⁣

Switch it up:

You could do the same movement with the abanico closed for a louder sound and a different effect and look.⁣

To do that with this particular step you would quickly close your fan ⁣on the count of five or six.
