The Mantón de Manila is a silk shawl with long fringe and intricate floral embroidery. It is common for Spanish women to wear on special occasions, but it is also a popular flamenco dance accessory.

The mantón adds elegance, dimension, and visual drama to flamenco dance and brings attention to the movements of the upper body.

Working with the mantón enhances upper body strength and adds and another level of expression to flamenco dancing.

In this workshop we will study specialized techniques to move and dance with the mantón.

*Don’t have a mantón? You can make your own for class by getting a square piece of fabric cut 1.5 x 1.5 yards minimum or bring a poncho or something similar. (We will also have some smaller mantones you can borrow.) Contact us if you have questions.
